UNA-049

Note: UNA-041 to UNA-049 are all oil painting discovered by the UNAS-F in 1955. All of them have various effects on the human body when looked at. Thus, almost all of them will be classified under Cognitohazard. Besides that, majority of the content will be the same for all of them, besides the description. Feel free to skip over if you wish.

Description

UNA-049 is a regular looking oil painting, painted by [REDACTED] in 1954. UNA-049 depicts a plague doctor, being executed by a grim reaper via guillotine.

Persons who view UNA-049 for more than 1 minute will contract a previously unknown type of disease. The disease is extremely deadly, and has been shown to have small correlations to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and SARS-CoV-2 (more commonly known as Covid-19).

Those who contract the disease will go through 4 stages, before eventual death in 2 weeks.

The first stage shows mild symptoms. The infected will have a slight fever and flu. They will start feeling nausea, and will complain of difficulty breathing. This stage lasts for about 24 hours.

The second stage is an amplified version of the first. The infected's temperature rises drastically (up to 41°C). They will begin producing sickening amounts of mucus, which can pour out through their nose subconsciously. The infected may even go unconscious, as their tracheae may be blocked by thick mucus. Rapid and harsh coughing ensues the infected, and in severe cases, blood may be coughed up. At this stage, any attempts to slow down the effects of the disease are futile. This stage lasts for about 48 hours.

The third stage is extremely mild, so mild that it appears that the infected has fully recovered. Vitals increase to near 100%, and the infected will have regained much more energy than usual. At this point they will begin inviting friends, family and neighbours over for meals. In reality, in the third stage, the disease's contagiousness increases to stunningly high rates (Up to Rf 20 if not monitored). To spread the disease as much as possible, the infected will try to interact with as many people as possible. Usually, being within 5 meters or less away from the infected will result in 100% of cases being infected. This stage can last anywhere between 1 and 7 days.

Finally, in the fourth stage, the infected begin to suffer the worst effects of the disease. Their lungs will suffer hemorrhages, and burns will appear on the interior. They will suffer excruciating pain, as even breathing will irritate the burns. As time goes on, the burns increase in severity, from first to third-degree burns. An unknown force keeps the infected alive at this stage, making it impossible to kill the infected in almost any way. For about a week more, the infected will have to live with the pain of simply breathing, before they finally expire.

Due to the disease being able to spread extremely easily, UNA-049 has been given an extremely high threat level.

Acquisition

UNA-049 was discovered in an art gallery alongside UNA-041 to UNA-048 in 1955. The artist, [REDACTED] stated that he had learnt memetic technology from a different party, which he refused to provide the name of.

UNA-049 was brought back to Site 7a on truck.

Containment Protocol

UNA-049 is to be locked in an opaque steel case, in Storage Drawer 10 of Site 7a. At no point are personnel allowed to remove the steel case. As the full properties of UNA-049 have been ascertained, no tests are to be conducted from now onwards.

In the case of a containment breach (i.e. theft), UNAS-F-2 are to be dispatched to the location of UNA-049 based on a tracker that has been attached to it. Should the tracker be removed or malfunctioning, the UNAS-F is to look out for news reports on a painting that matches UNA-049's properties, and UNAS-F-2 are to be dispatched for retrieval.

Personnel at Site 7a are to be screened everyday for signs of fever or flu. Should they have above symptoms, they are to be isolated in Containment Cell 49 of the Site. If any personnel enters stage 2 of the disease, they are to be terminated immediately. Containment Cell 49 is to be disinfected once every two days, or immediately before personnel enter the Containment Cell.

Addendums

Addendum-049-1

It appears that, as the disease is similar to other lung diseases, it is possible to cure the infected via the same methods. However, the cure is only effective in the first stage. When entering the stage 2 and higher, the disease becomes seemingly indestructible.

Attempts are still being made to discover a cure for the disease.
